Czechia elections – level 2

10-10-2025 07:00

Andrej Babiš, a rich businessman and former leader of the Czech Republic, won the national elections with his party ANO. His group got about 34.6% of the votes, more than the current prime minister Petr Fiala’s team.

Babiš now needs another party to help him form a government. He may work with smaller parties that agree with him. Babiš often speaks against the European Union and doesn’t support giving weapons to Ukraine. He wants to spend less money on defence and focus more on his own country.

During his campaign, he promised cheaper energy and better pensions for people in Czechia. Many voters liked his idea of putting Czech citizens first.

Difficult words: defence (protection of a country), campaign (planned actions to reach a goal, especially in politics or business), citizen (a person who belongs to a country and has rights there).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did Babiš promise during his campaign concerning energy prices and pensions?
