Drivers cannot get home – level 2

11-01-2022 07:00

Last week, several trucks crashed on a busy road in Virginia, US. The trucks blocked the road for many hours, and the crash caused problems for hundreds of drivers.

Traffic on the road completely stopped, and at the same time, a heavy snowstorm came. Up to 28 centimeters of snow fell on the road in a very short time. Some drivers left their cars, but some stayed inside. It was very cold, and many drivers ran out of gas. They were stuck in their cars all night, often with nothing to eat or drink.

Local authorities closed an 80-kilometer-long part of the road, and workers tried to remove the trucks. They also showed drivers other ways so they could leave the road.

It was a difficult time for travelers. The bad weather canceled many flights, and there were many delays.

Difficult words: block (to make it difficult or impossible to move or get through a place), remove (to take something away from a place), delay (when something happens or someone arrives at a later time).
