Earth Hour 2022 – level 3

31-03-2022 15:00

Earth Hour is the world’s largest movement to protect our planet.

It’s an annual event when hundreds of millions of people in over 190 countries turn off their lights for 60 minutes. It’s a symbolic gesture to show that they care about our planet’s future, and they support environmental protection.

In 2007, Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia. Since then, it’s become a global movement for change. It reminds us that even small actions can make a big difference.

This year’s Earth Hour took place on March 26 at 8.30 PM local time. Monuments and various historic buildings across the globe, including the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, and the Sydney Opera House, turned off their lights for an hour in solidarity.

Despite millions of people participating, critics say that the reduction in power use is trivial.

Difficult words: gesture (an action), solidarity (the same purpose or interest), trivial (something that’s of little value or importance).
