Elizabeth Holmes goes to prison – level 2

02-06-2023 07:00

Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the company Theranos, went to prison for 11 years for lying to investors. Holmes promised a completely new blood-testing technology to get money from them. But the company ended in 2018.

On Tuesday, Holmes arrived at a prison camp in Texas and she seemed quite happy. The camp is for women who didn’t hurt anyone, and they work there. Holmes wanted to stay out of prison for longer, but the judge refused that. Before going to prison, Holmes spent time with her family. Holmes’ partner also went to prison for 13 years.

After leaving prison, Holmes will have rules to follow and she must give money to the people who she tricked.

Difficult words: investor (a person or company who puts money into a business), refuse (to say no), trick (to cheat or lie to someone).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What expectations do you have for Elizabeth Holmes' future upon her release from prison?
