EU carbon tax – level 1
07-01-2026 07:00
From January 2026, the EU will ask companies to pay a carbon tax on some materials from other countries. This tax depends on how much carbon the materials and things create. The EU says that this helps European companies
and keeps rules fair. Some countries do not agree with the rule, for example, the United States, China, or India. They say that it is bad for business. They worry about more problems in the future.
The EU says that the tax helps the planet. It makes production clean. The EU also wants to use the money to help its own companies.
Difficult words: carbon tax (money which companies pay for the carbon gas they produce, to help the planet), agree (to say yes), production (making things).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why do some countries such as the United States, China, and India oppose the EU’s carbon tax on imported materials?
