Extreme Desert Weather – level 3

12-12-2018 07:00

Heavy rain and hailstorms hit parts of Saudi Arabia recently – this was extreme weather for the desert country.

The storms hit one provincial capital particularly hard and its streets were submerged with what appeared to be a strange sludge but was actually icy flash flood water.

Difficult words: hailstorm (a storm of hail – frozen rain), submerge (get under water), sludge (a mixture of snow, mud and water), flash flood (a sudden, local flood caused by heavy rain).
