Fire in Indonesia – level 2

05-10-2015 15:00

A forest fire burned through at least 100 hectares of a nature reserve in Indonesia. The sanctuary is home to over 200 orangutans which had to evacuate.

Hot weather conditions and droughts caused the fire. Firefighters are trying to stop the fire.

The adult orangutans are fine, but doctors are treating 13 orangutan babies. They are not burned, but the smoke hurt their lungs and eyes.

Difficult words: sanctuary (a nature reserve), drought (when the weather is really dry), treat (when a doctor helps you).

You can read the original story and watch the video in the Level 3 section.

What do you think about the orangutans?
