Football official kissed a player – level 3

29-08-2023 07:00

FIFA has suspended the head of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales for three months due to allegations of an unwanted kiss on a player’s lips after Spain’s women’s team won the World Cup.

Rubiales’ suspension follows an incident with player Jenni Hermoso that sparked outrage among players and fans. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) supports Rubiales’ legal defense to prove his innocence. The coach of the Spanish women’s soccer team, Jorge Vilda, expressed regret over Rubiales’ behavior. Victor Francos from Spain’s National Sports Council endorsed FIFA’s decision.

Rubiales, who claims the kiss was consensual, faces criticism and calls for his resignation. The situation has led to a players’ revolt, with Spain’s women’s team squad members refusing to play under Rubiales’ leadership.

Difficult words: endorse (to declare public support of someone), consensual (done with the willing agreement of all the people involved), revolt (an attempt to end the authority of a person by rebelling).
