G20 Summit in Germany – level 2

13-07-2017 15:00

The G20 summit took place in Hamburg, Germany on Friday and Saturday. As world leaders came together, so did protesters. Thousands of them were in the streets.

They carried slogans like ‘Smash G20’ or ‘In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept a fascist America’.

Around 20,000 police officers were in Hamburg. They were equipped with water cannons and riot gear. The police said that they were trying to separate the violent protesters from the peaceful protesters.

Difficult words: refuse (say no to), fascist (a government that tells its people what to do), riot gear (things which protect the officers from an attack), separate (set apart).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
