Gaza famine – level 2
27-08-2025 07:00
The United Nations says there is famine in Gaza City and the surrounding areas. António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, called it a man-made disaster.
A special food security group (IPC) says more than 500,000 people in Gaza are living in very dangerous conditions. Many families face hunger, sickness, and even death. The group warns that the situation will get worse if more food and help don’t arrive quickly. People in Gaza describe very high food prices, hunger, and children dying. The UN says that people made this situation because help came too late.
Israel disagrees and calls the report a lie. It says there is no famine. But many UN groups, aid workers, and even Israel’s allies say the help going into Gaza is not enough.
Difficult words: famine (no food for many people), disaster (a serious and dangerous situation), ally (a country or person who helps and supports another one in a difficult situation).
