German companies in trouble – level 2

16-05-2025 15:00

A fertilizer factory in Germany is having problems. It started over 100 years ago, but now it is losing money. Energy costs are very high, and the factory can’t make as much as before. This makes the future of the business unclear.

Other factories in Germany also have problems. They are making less and cutting jobs. Germany usually keeps many factory jobs, but now it is harder. The government wants to help with more money, but we don’t know if this will work well.

Germany is still one of the top countries in the world for making things like machines, steel, and clothes. Even if it is a small country, it makes more than many big countries. People ask how Germany can keep these jobs and grow.

Difficult words: fertilizer (a substance which helps plants grow), unclear (not easy to understand or know), steel (hard silver metal).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What measures is the government considering to support factories as they deal with high energy costs, reduced production, and job cuts?
