Giorgio Armani dies – level 3

09-09-2025 15:00

Giorgio Armani, one of the world’s most renowned fashion designers, has passed away at the age of 91.

Known as King Giorgio, he transformed menswear in the 1970s by softening the traditional jacket, creating a more relaxed and natural style. His idea that elegance means simplicity guided his career for five decades.

Armani built a fashion empire that included haute couture, perfumes, home interiors, and hotels, making Italian fashion a global phenomenon. Born in 1934 in Piacenza, Armani moved to Milan after World War II. He first studied medicine but left the university and later entered the fashion industry by chance, working at the department store La Rinascente. His big break came with designer Nino Cerruti. In 1975, he launched his own label, later gaining fame in Hollywood with Richard Gere’s film American Gigolo.

Despite his success, Armani kept control of his company, refusing to sell shares. His heirs include family members and close collaborators, and his brand is expected to continue.

Difficult words: haute couture (very exclusive, handmade, luxury fashion), phenomenon (something amazing and important), heir (a person who receives property or business after someone dies).
