Green methanol – level 2

14-10-2025 15:00

Denmark is one of the first countries to make green methanol, a new kind of clean fuel. This fuel can power ships, planes, and factories, and we can use it to make plastics, paint, and glue.

The new factory in the south of Denmark uses solar energy to make hydrogen from water. Then, it mixes the hydrogen with CO₂ from animal waste to make green methanol. Big companies like Maersk and Lego already use it in their work.

Making this fuel costs more money than normal fuel, but Denmark wants to make more of it in the future. It is a big step for cleaner transport and for the world’s fight against climate change.

Difficult words: fuel (something that gives energy), waste (things we no longer need).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which energy source and type of carbon dioxide does the new factory in southern Denmark use to produce green methanol?
