Hotel Falls Down – level 3

Rescue attempts in China have continued for several days after a five-story hotel collapsed.

The hotel in Quanzhou was used as a coronavirus quarantine facility, and, according to officials, there were 71 people in the hotel at the time of the collapse. At least 26 of them died and many were seriously injured.

A man was rescued after being trapped under the rubble for 69 hours. Firefighters who were combing the scene heard knocking from the ruins, and they were able to locate the man by digging a tunnel. The 24-year-old man was taken to hospital, and he is now in stable condition.

Difficult words: quarantine facility (an isolated place where people stay to prevent the spread of disease), comb (to search a place very carefully), stable condition (the state when a patient’s health is not worsening).
