Huawei towers in Europe – level 3

20-05-2020 07:00

The process of ripping out 5G mobile equipment has begun for thousands of network towers across Europe.

Countries including the UK, France, and Sweden are doing this work because the United States said that China’s Huawei posed an unacceptable risk to national security. Huawei has vehemently and repeatedly denied this allegation.

Transplanting Huawei technology is expected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars and several years to complete.

Hull is the first British city in which the Huawei ban is becoming a reality. Workers are working to cut out all the Chinese firm’s equipment there by early July, substituting in components from Nokia.

Difficult words: rip out (to remove violently), pose (to bring), vehemently (strongly), ban (an official rule that says that something is not allowed).
