Illegal business with Russia – level 1

29-11-2024 07:00

David Crisp is a British businessman. He sells expensive perfume in Russia. He does it even after Russia attacks Ukraine in 2022. Crisps speaks about his business in a secret video.

This business breaks UK rules. The UK must not do business with Russia. Selling these goods to Russia is a crime. But a British government agency stops investigating Crisp’s business. They find over 1.7 million pounds in illegal business. Crisp says that he does not want to break the rules.

Some people say that the UK is not doing enough. There is illegal business. It is good for Russia. Other Western companies are also breaking the rules and they are doing business with Russia.

Difficult words: secret (something what people do not know about), goods (things which people buy or sell), investigate (to look for information about why or how something happens).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the controversy surrounding David Crisp's perfume business in Russia, and how does it relate to the UK's rules regarding business with Russia?
