Indian journalists have problems – level 3

28-10-2025 07:00

Indian news channels were once respected for supporting democracy, but now many viewers in India and neighboring countries see them as propaganda tools.

Reporters in places like Nepal and Bangladesh have been criticized or even attacked for pushing pro-India or pro-Modi narratives rather than reporting facts. Critics say Indian TV focuses on sensationalism, nationalism, and religious bias, rather than balanced journalism. This has led to growing anti-India feelings across South Asia. Experts argue that these channels harm India’s image abroad by spreading false or exaggerated stories, often to support political agendas.

Inside India, the problem is even worse: journalists face lawsuits, arrests, and censorship. Most media outlets are now owned by business or political allies of the government, reducing independence. The result is a serious credibility crisis, with Indian news often seen as noisy entertainment rather than real journalism.

Difficult words: propaganda (information used to influence people), sensationalism (making news shocking to attract attention), credibility (how believable something is).
