Kamikaze drones – level 3

21-10-2022 07:00

During Monday’s rush hour, Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with drones. The suicide drones appeared to include Iranian explosives. They set buildings ablaze and forced residents to run for shelter.

Online footage showed drones flying across the morning sky towards Kyiv, and people heard gunshots as Ukrainian police desperately tried to bring the drones down. However, the drones destroyed many buildings in the capital, and emergency workers attempted to rescue people from their homes.

At least 10 civilians died in the bombardment on Kyiv, and it became the deadliest day for the residents of the capital since the beginning of the war. The attacks came exactly one week after missile strikes rained down across Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure and key bridges.

Difficult words: ablaze (on fire), civilian (a person who isn’t a member of the police or the armed forces), bombardment (a continuous attack on a place with guns or bombs).
