LGBTQ TV Characters – level 3

The GLAAD Media Institute issued its annual report where it said that LGBTQ characters made up over 10% of all regular series characters on TV. This is the highest percentage since GLAAD started reporting.

The report says that the majority of LGTBQ characters on TV are gay men. It also recommends that at a time when viewers have many options for entertainment, LGBTQ characters and their stories must reflect the real world.

GLAAD wants to make sure that by 2025, 20% of regular series characters are LGBTQ.

Megan Townsend, GLAAD’s director of entertainment research and analysis, says that it is very important that TV series reflect the audience and its culture.

Difficult words: LGBTQ (a term used for the community of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people), majority (the most of), reflect (to show).
