Minneapolis shooting – level 3
13-01-2026 07:00
A 37-year-old woman died after a shooting during an immigration raid in Minneapolis, US.
Federal immigration officers stopped her car in the middle of a residential street and ordered her to get out. Video recordings show the woman tried to drive away slowly while officers pulled at her car door. An officer then fired shots, and the car crashed. The event caused anger among local people and leaders.
The national government defended the officer. The president said the woman acted dangerously and claimed the officer shot in self-defense. The Department of Homeland Security said the woman used her car as a weapon and called her a domestic terrorist. Allegedly, the woman had harassed officers all day prior to the shooting. Officials said the officer feared for his life and followed his training.
The city mayor strongly rejected this view after watching the video. He said officers recklessly used force and told immigration agents to leave the city. Many people now debate what really happened. Videos spread online, and different sides see the same images in very different ways.
Difficult words: self-defense (protecting yourself when someone tries to hurt you), prior to (before something happens), recklessly (in a dangerous way without thinking).
