Minneapolis shooting – level 2
13-01-2026 07:00
Immigration officers shot and killed a woman during a raid in Minneapolis, US.
The officers stopped her car and told her to get out. Videos show her trying to drive away slowly while officers pulled the door. An officer then shot her, and the car crashed.
Many people in the city feel angry and shocked. The president and government leaders defend the officer. They say the woman tried to hurt officers with her car. They say the officer feared for his life and wanted to protect himself and others. The government calls the woman dangerous.
The boss of Minneapolis got very angry. He said the officer used power in a dangerous way and asked immigration officers to leave the city. People online watch the same videos but have very different opinions. The event made people talk again about immigration and safety.
Difficult words: immigration officer (a government worker who controls who can enter or stay in a country), raid (a quick police action), defend (to protect someone or say they are right).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What explanation did the president and other government leaders give for defending the officer’s decision to shoot the woman?
