More California Fires – level 1

01-09-2020 07:00

The US state California has many wildfires. The weather is often dry and hot there. When a fire starts there, it moves very quickly. It is not easy to stop it.

More than 650 fires happen in California recently. The fires burn 2,000 square miles. They destroy more than 1,400 buildings. Firefighters work very hard to stop the fires.

Luckily, the weather gets better. Firefighters stop all the fires. People can go back to their homes. However, many houses are destroyed.

Then, storms come. New fires start. Firefighters stop all the new fires. The situation is not dangerous now.

However, seven people die in these fires. More fires are in other US states, too.

Difficult words: wildfire (a large fire that moves quickly, and it burns forests or bushes), destroy (to break something very badly), firefighter (a person whose job is to stop fires).
