Musk’s Grok stops sexual AI pictures – level 3

20-01-2026 07:00

Elon Musk’s AI tool Grok will stop editing photos of real people to show them in revealing clothes in places where this is illegal.

The decision follows strong public anger about sexual AI deepfakes that show people without their permission. X said it added new technical limits to block this use and said paid users are easier to identify and hold responsible.

Regulators and campaign groups welcomed the move but said checks continue. The UK regulator Ofcom said its review of possible law-breaking still continues. In the United States, officials in California also began checks into sexual AI images, including cases that involve children. Some people affected said these fake images feel deeply harmful and very real.

The case shows how hard it is to control new digital tools. Governments say tech companies must protect users, especially children. New laws aim to stop abuse before it spreads. Many experts believe this moment could shape future rules for AI tools on social media platforms.

Difficult words: revealing (showing a lot of the body, especially in a sexual way), permission (saying yes or allowing someone to do something), regulator (an authority that controls rules).

What measures did X put in place to block unauthorized sexual AI deepfakes, and why did it say paid users are easier to hold responsible?
