Napalm girl – level 1

25-07-2022 07:00

In the 1970s, a war happens in Vietnam. In 1972, South Vietnamese planes attack a small village. They make a mistake. They drop napalm bombs on the village.

Napalm is a sticky chemical. It burns easily. It is very dangerous. Clothes burn onto people’s skin after a napalm attack.

Kim Phuc Phan Thi lives in the village. She is nine years old. Her clothes burn. She runs naked on a road.

Photographer Nick Ut takes her picture. This picture becomes one of the most important pictures of the twentieth century. Many people know the picture. People call Kim the “Napalm Girl”.

Kim has pain all her life. She has many scars on her back. Last week, doctors finish their work to treat the scars. Nick is with Kim. They are still friends fifty years after the attack.

Difficult words: sticky (a thing that stays on your fingers when you touch it), naked (no clothes), scar (a mark on the skin after the skin burns).
