New airport tech – level 2

14-08-2025 07:00

Airports like Schiphol in Amsterdam are using new technology to help with luggage and people moving around. They are trying self-driving vehicles that can move bags by themselves.

These vehicles use cameras and sensors to see what is around them. They stop if something is in the way or if a person walks near them. It is hard to add these cars to airports because airports are very busy with many people and planes.

The airport tests the new machines to be sure they are safe. They want to have airports where many vehicles drive by themselves by 2050. This will take a long time because airports have many rules to keep people safe. Even if self-driving cars are on the roads, airports need more careful tests to keep flights on time and avoid problems.

Difficult words: sensor (a tool which can see or feel things), add (to put something with other things or to include something more), avoid (to stay away from something or not to do something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What makes it difficult to introduce self-driving vehicles at airports?
