New York Sumo Club – level 1

Sumo is a sport from Japan. In New York, people also practice sumo now. The New York Sumo Club is in Manhattan.
The club starts three years ago with two people. Now, many people come to train. They use a mat from Japan, like in real sumo. The leader, Oscar, wants a place for everyone. Men, women, young, and old can join.
People wear a belt called mawashi. People can color the belts however they want. This shows style and fun. The club makes a big event called the Empire Cup in Brooklyn. About 60 fighters join, and many people watch. The club wants more members and wants sumo to grow in New York.
Difficult words: mat (a thick piece of material which people use for exercise or sport), belt (a long strip which a person wears around the waist), style (a special way of doing something which shows your character).
