One World Trade Center – level 3

07-11-2014 15:00

More than thirteen years after the original towers were destroyed in the 9/11 attacks, New York’s World Trade Center has reopened for business. With enthusiasm tinged by emotional remembrance, employees at publishing giant Condé Nast are starting to move in to the One World Trade Center.

They are the first wave for 3400 company staffers to occupy America’s tallest skyscraper, the 104-storey gleaming tower in Lower Manhattan.

About 170 employees will be moving into the building this week, filling five floors. About 3,000 more employees will then join them in early 2015.

The publishing company which owns The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and other magazines, is the first renter to set up offices in the tower where it will occupy floors 20 to 44.

The 3.9 billion dollar tower rose from the rubble, overcoming repeated delays that pushed back the original 2006 completion date.

Difficult words: business (make things or sell services), enthusiasm (interest), tinge (modify), emotional (feel strong feelings), remembrance (remembering something), skyscraper (an extremely tall building), gleaming (shining), renter (when a person or a business occupies a space by paying money to the owner over a certain amount of time), rubble (pieces of a building or buildings which had been destroyed).
