Pakistan cable car rescue – level 2

25-08-2023 07:00

A cable car which carried eight people got stuck above a ravine in Pakistan’s northwest. The incident occurred near Battagram City.

A military helicopter and ground teams saved the group, including six children. The cable broke while they were going to school. Rescuers used a zip line to bring everyone down to safety. The operation was dangerous, but the rescue was successful.

Local people call the cable car Dolly. It is an important way of transport in the mountainous area.  People use the cable car system regularly for mountain transportation because there are no good roads and infrastructure.

Difficult words: ravine (a deep narrow place in the mountains), zip line (a cable between two points which a person slides down), infrastructure (buildings, roads, and power supplies in an area).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What potential safety measures could be implemented to ensure similar cable car incidents are avoided in the future?
