Physics Nobel Prize – level 1

10-10-2025 15:00

Three scientists — John Clarke, Michel Devoret, and John Martinis — win the Nobel Prize in Physics. They study quantum mechanics, a science about very small things like atoms.

Their work helps people make quantum computers, which can do some jobs faster than normal computers. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Sweden gives the prize. The scientists share 11 million Swedish kronor for their great work.

Their ideas start many years ago but are very important today. They help people build new technology and change how we live and work.

Difficult words: quantum mechanics (science which studies very small things and how they behave in unusual ways), quantum computer (a computer that uses quantum mechanics to process information much faster than other computers), prize (an award).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

In what way can quantum computers, developed from their research, outperform normal computers?
