President Essebsi – level 2

31-07-2019 07:00

Last month, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi went to hospital, as he had a serious illness. Last Thursday, people announced that he died, but they did not say what caused his death. He died at the age of 92.

In 2011, Essebsi  became Tunisia’s first leader after the Arab Spring. Three years later, people elected him president, and he became the country’s first democratically elected president. He was also the oldest head of state after Queen Elizabeth II.

Difficult words: announce (officially say something), cause (make something happen), elect (vote for/choose).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
