Protest in Sri Lanka – level 1

20-11-2018 07:00

This news is about Sri Lankan politics. The Sri Lankan president removes the prime minister. He dissolves the parliament, too. He makes somebody that he likes a new prime minister.

People do not like this. They feel that this is not democratic. They organise a vigil. They come together with candles. Even people, who normally do not protest, go to the vigil.

Difficult words: remove (put away), dissolve (remove, close, end), democratic (when the people of a country decide its leaders or laws), vigil (a calm, peaceful demonstration).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
