Protests in UK arms factories – level 2

12-12-2023 15:00

Protesters shut down four UK arms factories which produce components for Israeli F-35 fighter jets.

The factories are located in Bournemouth, Lancashire, Brighton, and Glasgow, and they supply important parts for the F-35 stealth fighter. Currently, Israel is using these jets in Gaza. The diverse group of protesters included health workers and teachers. They demand stopping arms sales to Israel and securing a lasting ceasefire with UK government support.

Similar actions are taking place in France, Denmark, and the Netherlands. They reflect an escalating movement against Israeli arms manufacturing in Europe.

Difficult words: component (a part of a machine or vehicle), ceasefire (the time when two countries stop fighting), escalate (to become greater or more serious).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is the significance of the recent protests against UK arms factories supplying parts for Israeli F-35 fighter jets, and why are similar actions occurring in other European countries?
