Russia takes Ukrainian areas – level 1

05-10-2022 07:00

On Friday, the Russian president Vladimir Putin annexes four Ukrainian areas.

Annex is to take land with force or power. The areas are now part of Russia. They are called Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzia. They are a lot of land in Ukraine.

Last week, referendums happen there. People vote if they want to be part of Russia. Most people say yes. Many other people believe that the referendums are fake.

Putin asks Ukraine to stop the fight. He wants to talk. Still, he will keep the four areas. Some world leaders already say that they will never accept the areas as Russia’s.

Difficult words: referendum (when people vote about something important), fake (not real or true), accept (to agree with something).
