Security in West Africa – level 1

In 1975, 15 West African countries make a group. It is called ECOWAS.

These countries to work in business and politics. Recently, several coups happen in these countries. The situation in some countries is not safe.

On December 4, 2022, ECOWAS leaders meet in Nigeria. They speak about security in West Africa. They want to make the area safer.

In July, police in Mali arrest 46 Ivorian soldiers. Since that time, ECOWAS and Mali have a bad relationship with each other. ECOWAS leaders say that Mali must free the soldiers by the end of December.
