Situation in Hong Kong – level 1

09-09-2019 07:00

There is a new law in Hong Kong in April. This law does not pass. Politicians only talk about it.

However, the law makes a lot of people angry. They start to protest. In June, a million people protest. Carrie Lam is the leader of Hong Kong. The protests make her suspend the law.

However, people are still protesting. They want the law to be withdrawn. Recently, Lam withdraws the law.

Difficult words: pass (say “yes” to a law and make it happen), suspend (stop for some time), withdraw – withdrew – withdrawn (stop completely).
