South African athlete in court – level 1
16-07-2025 07:00
Caster Semenya is from South Africa. She is a very fast runner. She wins gold medals in the 800-meter race. But she cannot run now. There is a rule. It says that women must have low testosterone. She has more because of her body.
Caster goes to court. She says that the rule is not fair. A European court says that another Swiss court does not listen to her well. But she still cannot run in races now.
Caster says that she wants to feel safe and happy. She also wants to help people like her. Many people think that Caster does nothing wrong.
Difficult words: rule (something people must or must not do), testosterone (a hormone in the body), court (a place where people talk about the law).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What does the rule require of women’s testosterone levels?
