Supermarket on fire – level 2
20-06-2025 07:00
A big fire happened at the New World supermarket in Auckland, New Zealand. Fire crews worked for 10 hours to stop the fire.
The supermarket was getting repairs and a new area for online orders. The fire likely started in the upper part of the store, where builders were working. The reason for the fire is still not clear.
The building is badly damaged. Now, insurance experts and engineers will look at it. They will check if the building can be fixed or if they need to take it down. Building a new one may take years.
A big new supermarket is almost ready in Christchurch. Many people will shop there. It has a huge water tank to help in case of a fire.
Difficult words: likely (probably), insurance (an agreement in which you pay a company money and they pay your costs if you have an accident, injury, and so on), huge (very big or large).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What feature does the new Christchurch supermarket include to help in case of a fire?
