When we hear about the dark web, we often imagine hackers in dark rooms, but the truth is more ordinary and disturbing.
To get to the dark web, you need special software like Tor which the US government developed to protect military messages. On the dark web, there are drug markets, but authorities close these markets regularly. Also, people can buy personal data such as email addresses, social security numbers, passwords, and usernames. If you ever get spam, there is a good chance that someone bought your personal data on the dark web.
The largest part of the dark web is definitely child sex abuse material. Last year, authorities shut down three big markets and arrested many individuals based on evidence which these people left online.
Difficult words: disturbing (making people worried), sex abuse (making someone take part in sexual activities, against their wish), evidence (information or facts).
