The EU wants better gun control – level 2
06-03-2026 07:00
The European Commission wants the same prison rules for holding and using illegal guns in all EU countries.
People who make, sell, or own illegal firearms could face two to eight years in prison. Sharing digital plans for 3D-printed guns would also be a crime. The problem is that different national laws help criminals move guns across borders. About 620,000 guns are lost or stolen in the EU, and gun violence kills around 1,300 people each year. New technology and wars outside Europe may increase illegal weapons in the region.
The proposal also asks each country to create a special office and collect better information about illegal guns.
Difficult words: firearm (a gun), national (related to a whole country), gun violence (harm or killing by guns).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What factors may lead to an increase in illegal weapons within the EU?
