The golden ratio – level 2

06-08-2025 07:00

The golden ratio is a number that comes from a group of numbers called the Fibonacci sequence.

These numbers were used in Europe in 1202, and they create a shape called the golden rectangle. Some people think this shape looks very nice. Gustav Fechner said people liked it best, but later, others showed that he was not right. The golden ratio is in some flowers and other things in nature, but it is not in everything. For example, snail shells don’t grow with this number.

Some people use the golden ratio to say who is beautiful. They use it in apps or pictures on social media. But this is not true. Scientists say the golden ratio cannot show who is or is not beautiful. Everyone is different, and that is okay.

Difficult words: sequence (the order in which things follow each other), rectangle (a shape with four sides and four corners), shell (the hard outer part of some animals, for example snails or crabs).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Which natural object is mentioned as not growing according to the golden ratio?
