The world is getting warm fast – level 2

14-02-2024 07:00

Global warming surpassed 1.5°C for the first time. It was more than the target which world leaders set in 2015.

Experts worry about the impacts which rising temperature has on nature and food systems. World leaders signed international agreements like the Paris Agreement, but extreme weather events worldwide show us that we need to do more and do it quickly.

Good things are happening, for example, the US invested a trillion dollars into new technologies and China wants to make more renewable energy. But it is still not enough and we need more action to deal with the negative impacts of climate change.

Difficult words: surpass (to go beyond a limit), target (something you want to reach or achieve), renewable energy (energy which comes from wind, the sun, water, and so on).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What actions are being taken by world leaders to address the negative impacts of climate change, and are they doing enough to make a significant difference?
