TikTok and Indonesia’s elections – level 2

16-02-2024 07:00

During the Indonesian presidential campaign, candidates turned to TikTok to connect with young voters.

Prabowo is one of the candidates. He was a tough and serious man who now shares funny videos, and he inspires others to do the same. Anies and Ganjar are also becoming more active on TikTok, and they communicate with voters. But some people worry that a lot of information on TikTok is fake. Young people may not know about Prabowo’s past problems. There are many fake images and videos on TikTok, but TikTok says that they fight with false information. TikTok bans political ads but it may not be enough.

Experts say that these days candidates need to be funny to attract young voters because TikTok plays a key role in Indonesian politics.

Difficult words: campaign (organized actions to achieve something), ad (an advertisement), attract (to make someone interested).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
