Trump and Putin meet – level 1
19-08-2025 07:00
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin meet in Anchorage, Alaska. They talk for three hours about Ukraine. People wait for big news, but Trump only says, ‘We make progress. No deal until there is a deal.’ He does not answer questions and walks away.
For Putin, the meeting is already a win. He sits with the US president after many countries try to keep him out. A big bomber plane flies over the place. This shows how strong the US is.
Trump later says that he will not punish Russia now. He wants to push India and China instead, because they buy Russian oil. At the end, Trump says to President Zelensky: “Make a deal.” He shows that he thinks Russia is stronger than Ukraine.
Difficult words: progress (moving closer to a goal), bomber (a big military plane with bombs), punish (to make someone suffer for doing something wrong).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What does Trump’s instruction to President Zelensky, “Make a deal,” suggest about his view of Russia’s strength relative to Ukraine?
