Trump wants to stop money for Harvard University – level 2
24-04-2025 07:00
President Trump says Harvard may lose its tax-free status. He also froze more than 2 billion dollars in government money.
This happened after Harvard said no to the government’s demands. Trump says protests at the university show it allows antisemitism. His team wants big changes in how Harvard hires teachers and chooses students. Some people wonder why Harvard gets public money when it is already very rich.
Harvard uses the money for research in science and medicine. Experts say the government didn’t follow the right steps. Before taking away money, they needed to show proof and talk to the school first. Harvard says it will fight back. What happens in court could change how the government works with other schools, too.
Difficult words: status (a position or condition), antisemitism (bad ideas and acting towards Jewish people), proof (something that shows something else is true).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What procedural steps did experts say the government failed to follow before freezing more than $2 billion in funding to Harvard?
