US Army and Saudi Arabia – level 3

02-10-2019 07:00

At the beginning of September, someone in Saudi Arabia attacked two major US oil facilities. As a result, the American government decided to send military equipment, radar units, and 200 military troops there.

The American Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, said that these attacks are an “act of war.” President Donald Trump wrote on a social network that the U.S. is ready to respond to any further attack.

Yemeni Houthi rebels admitted their responsibility for the attacks. However, the US and other countries believe that Iran is the one responsible for the attacks. Iran says that they have nothing to do with it.

The Trump government wants to keep its military assistance defensive.

The Defense Secretary, Mark Esper, said that the government can send more military support such as missiles and missile systems.

Difficult words: oil facility (a place that creates oil), troops (soldiers), defensive (defend or protect).
