Vatican to give blessings for same-sex couples – level 2

25-12-2023 15:00

The Vatican will allow Roman Catholic priests to offer blessings to same-sex couples. Pope Francis approved this.

Priests can perform blessings, but these blessings must not be part of regular Church rituals. The Vatican says that these blessings do not validate unusual situations but they show that God accepts all people. Priests can give blessings to individuals who need God’s help.

The Church states that same-sex attraction is not a sin but homosexual acts are. People from the LGBT community welcome the change but they are afraid of some problems within the Church.

Difficult words: blessing (a special wish or favor from God), validate (to make something officially acceptable), sin (something what you do and it breaks the laws of God).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What impact do you think this change in policy will have on the Catholic community and its beliefs about same-sex relationships?
