Venezuela’s oil – level 1

27-02-2026 15:00

Venezuela has a lot of oil under the ground. It has one of the biggest oil reserves in the world. But most of this oil is very thick and heavy. It is hard and expensive to get it out. It also makes a lot of pollution.

This oil does not make much gasoline. It mostly makes asphalt and heavy fuel. These products are not so good. Venezuela’s oil industry also has problems. Some machines are old and broken.

In the past, the government sends foreign oil companies away, so companies are careful now. In the future, new technology could help. But this will need time and money.

Difficult words: reserve (a supply of something what you want to use in the future), pollution (dirty substances in the air, water, or land), foreign (from another country).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why do most of Venezuela’s oil reserves yield asphalt and heavy fuel instead of gasoline?
