Why young people like white snus – level 3
28-04-2025 07:00
White snus, also known as nicotine pouches, is a new product that has become very popular in the UK, especially among young people.
Unlike traditional snus, it does not contain tobacco, but it can have up to 20 times more nicotine than a cigarette.
These pouches look like small tea bags and are placed between the gum and lip. They come in different flavors and are often brightly packaged, which makes them attractive to teenagers. Many students can buy them legally because current laws don’t regulate them strictly. However, there are serious concerns about addiction and health risks.
Young people, including athletes like semi-professional footballers, are using them often. Some users feel very dizzy or sick after trying them, especially if they have never smoked before. Others become addicted quickly and need them regularly.
Experts worry that this could lead to more serious addictions in the future. Schools report that students use them during class, and teachers notice changes in behavior and focus. Authorities are now seizing large amounts of these products. They often lack safety labels and warnings. Because of growing concerns, new laws are being planned to control how these products are sold and marketed, especially to children.
Difficult words: pouch (a small flexible bad), snus (a type of moist powdered tobacco, typically held in the mouth between the gums), addiction (a strong need to do or have something regularly).
