Sanae Takaichi is the new leader of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party. She can soon become the first female prime minister of Japan.
She has worked in politics for many years, and people know her as a strong and traditional person. She wants to help her party become popular again, but people in Japan are not happy because prices are going up, and there were scandals about money in politics. Takaichi doesn’t support many feminist ideas and wants to keep old family rules.
Other countries, like China and South Korea, worry about her views because she visited war places that are sensitive for them. Many people want to see what she will do next.
Difficult words: traditional (connected with old customs or ideas), scandal (an event which shocks people because it is wrong or dishonest), feminist (supporting the same rights and rules for women and men).
