A business park on the site of a Nazi camp – level 1
01-09-2026 15:00
People in Austria are very angry about a new building project. Workers are building a big shop and market on a special piece of land. A Nazi concentration camp stands here long ago.
During World War II, the Nazis keep about 400 women in this camp during World War II. The women must work there. Activists and historians want to save this place to remember the past. They say that we must not build shops on places where people suffer.
The company says it will build a special place to remember the women. But many people think that building shops here is wrong. We should remember the past and learn from it.
Difficult words: concentration camp (a place where large numbers of people must stay and work, and they often die there), historian (a person who studies and writes about the past), suffer (to undergo something difficult or painful).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Should a big shop and market be built on land where a Nazi concentration camp once held about 400 women, or should the site be preserved as a memorial to remember their suffering?
